THE Lo’i Life

The vision started with the dream of restoring loi at my home in Hale’iwa & being able to share that blessing with friends, family & community who do not have access to land of their own.

It has now grown into getting as many people in touch with not only growing kalo but eating kalo. Our family & friends quickly grew families of their own & naturally wanted to feed them the most nutritious foods.

I feel it is my responsibility to honor the land that i have been so blessed to protect & use it, love & care for it to its upmost potential. In doing that, share as much as i can with my community & whoever is within my reach; for the present & the future.

I feel we are taking small steps of our own & doing what we can to inspire others as well as help restore a culture. We are all so fortunate to call these Islands home & should strive to honor this beautiful āina by doing our part. It is important to me & the family & friends who lend their time, love & mana to this project, to work together with other farmers, share each other’s fruits of labor & promote sustainability within our Islands as well as food security for Island living.

You don’t have to look hard or far to realize some of the best produce in the entire world is grown here in Hawaii . Somehow over time many have neglected what our own Islands have to offer. This is the time to change that perspective.

I was recently told- the more people eat kalo- the more people will grow kalo. We hope this will become a want to learn more, not only about its nutritional value but its ultimate- sacred significance in Hawaii. These days people neglect what’s important, hardly anyone knows where their food comes from & have a great disconnect with the land & growing process.

This is our way to hopefully connect with them & help everyone get back to eating healthy home grown foods - especially during our current situation where everyone in Hawaii is forced to look towards local farmers for their food source. We can only hope to inspire & spread awareness.
